Vedic Palmistry ~ Hasta Rekha Shastra, published in 2017 by Signing Dragon
I have always had a deep interest in Palmistry (Hasta Rekha) and Astrology, and during my stay in Sri Lanka in 2004/5 I was able to indulge myself a little more than I intended. As luck would have it, I was to encounter a rather good traditional Indian palmistry teacher. I already have some background in Jyotish (Indian or Vedic Astrology) and so this was a great next step to take to see if I could integrate the two disciplines.
Note: Hasta = hand and Rekha = lines.
The culmination of this was my 2017 book Vedic Palmistry ~ Hasta Rekha Shastra and, which hopefully went some way in explaining their associated methodologies and interrelationships.
Traditional associations of the planets, their mounds and signs on the palm
Here is an excerpt from my book:
“Palmistry is an integral part of Jyotish practice (astrology) that helps to determine an individual's physical, mental and karmic potential. A full explanation of how to read a palm from the point of view of Vedic wisdom is provided, with tips on how to identify and time those areas impacting on wealth, health and longevity. This book teaches you to analyse the possible implications of life-events as seen from the lines (Rekha) on the palm. This book also offers a number of methods to placate astrological influences via the use of yantra, mantra and gemstones, for example, explaining which gemstones to wear and on which finger. This guide is a thorough introduction to the practice of Vedic palmistry for students and practitioners of the Vedic tradition and those with a general interest in the occult sciences of India, but also for anyone interested in what the hand can tell them about their life potential and circumstances.”
Pancanguli Yantra (device associated with the goddess of palmistry)
As I was finishing up the text for this book, I happened across an interview online with a gentleman called Mr. Johnny Fincham and was rather stuck with his own interpretation of the hand and palm and how he approached the reading of both.
I wrote to him in 2016 and asked if he would like to have a look at my manuscript and perhaps write something to introduce both himself as well his own take on palmistry. While he had made an effect to move away from the more esoteric and traditional systems, he still very much honoured and respected the source materials.
Here is what he (Johnny) subsequently wrote about my book:
“This is an excellent and very well-written work on the ancient tradition of Vedic Palmistry or Hasta Rekha Shastra. I learned a lot from this book, as anyone fascinated by the traditions, history and origins of palmistry would be. Highly recommended!”

Interview 19/10/2023
Fast-forward to October 2023, and I finally got a chance to catch up with Johnny and ask him if he would like to do a short interview about his work with the hand a palm, in the form of a one-hour Q&A. He agreed, and the following was the outcome.
It was really fun to talk and I learned a lot. I do hope you enjoy it too.

I look forward to setting time aside to enjoy your interview. I have an avid interest in reading the body and have myself written a book on the topic of Iridology and the study of the eyes in holistic medicine. I recently purchased "The Hand Reveals" by Warren Davis, which I have found quite complex. I'm still reading through it as it is such a fascinating and nuanced topic. Thank you for sharing your work which I appreciate must have taken you many years to study.
